. well, you know, advertising a word mark zuckerberg would not have used when he first described facebook. here's what he said to investors. earlier this year. quote, facebook was not originally founded to be a company. we've always cared primarily about our social mission. well, the company's mission now is to make money off of you and its 955 million users. it has to make money. that's just the reality of it. now you're a public company. how does it plan to do that? here's a couple things they're planning to do supposedly. there's a rumored want button. there's a like button on facebook now if you like something. the want button lets you tell your friends what you'd like them to buy for you. maybe it's a wedding or baby registry thing. it's supposed to link you to spending money. there's also a new service called facebook exchange which tracks what you do on the remember and shows you ads when you go back on facebook based on where you have been. according to bloomberg, facebook is also working on a cell phone to try to make money from people on their cell phones which has been a real i

basically get weapons and money into syria from that... from the turkish area. so for us it made sense to get a sense of hue who the rebels are to spend time in the region they control instead of trying to cower and hide and go with them undercover from place to place to be in this swath of towns and villages that they control. rough where you have they are relatively safe. free fro government assault on a regular basis? >> at this time. if you were to try to look at the map and say "where exactly do the rebels control? everyday it changes a bit, it morphs and changes. on the edges of the area they control the government might take a town back. there was one town when we were there that switched hands between the government and the rebels four times. why? because the government realizes that this border area is important to the rebels. they realize it is a buffer zone and they are trying to regain control but obviously government's army is stretched and itsriorities are elsewhere: namely damascus and aleppo. >> woodruff: tell us about the rebels you met. you talked to a number of them.

're with us everybody. i'm jenna lee. jon: i'm jon scott. the concerns coming out with the release of the new gdp numbers. our commerce department says the economy grew at annual rate of 1.5% from april to june. americans spending at their slowest pace in a year. economists say growth at or below 2% is not enough to lower the unemployment rate. they do not expect growth to pick up much in the second half of the year either. let's talk about it with karl rove, former senior advisor and deputy chief of staff to president george w. bush. he is also a fox news contributor. karl, what do you make of these numbers? >> well not good, not good for the country and not good politically for the president. here's a look, jon, if you will, you remember the growth here, number in the second quarter is 1.5%. for the year it is estimated to be 2% though i suspect a lot of people will be lowering their estimates now that we've had 1.5% in the second quarter and 2% in the first quarter. but here's what looked like in previous reelections. when president bush ran for re-election it was 2.6% in the second quarte

went from roughly, i think 6.2% now to 8.2%. and remember, he promised us we would be far more better shape than we are today. january 10 of 2009, if you want to know exactly what will happen when the stimulus bill passes take a look at the report prepared by the head of his council of economic advisors. it forecast unemployment would be 6% today. last year the administration forecast for economic growth this year was 4%. that is twice the rate that at best we're going to hit this year. no wonder, joe bide, actually captures reality of it recently when he got off message and said, quote, for millions of americans americans this is a depression. it ain't working. jon: you have to hand it to the white house for looking at the silver lining for these numbers. here is a statement from alan krueger, the current chairman of the council of economic voors advisors. he says in part, the economy moves in the right direction additional growth is needed to replace the jobs lost in the deep recession that began and the end of 2007. there is never an opportunity lost to remind us that all of this s

of consecutive loss and that's what put us into the actual official recessionary status. by 2010 you had green arrows there up 2.4%, which looks like it heads toward a more healthy situation. remember for more context here, if you're in a really, healthy booming economy you're at 5, 6, even 7% growth which is what you usually see when you're starting it bounce out of a recessionary period. that's not what we're seeing here. back in 2007, take a look, 1.9%, in terms of real gdp growth. in 2004 woe were down at 3.5%. 05, 3.1%, and you can take a look how this chart has shaped up. and the number we got this morning, 1.5% growth, it is not a recessionary number as some people have been anticipating but it is not a lot of positive growth on the upside. we'll get one more number in october when we look at the next quarter gdp growth. that will come in right before the election period. rick? rick: switching gears for a minute let's talk about violent storms that caused serious damage in the northeast. check out this video of a transformer exploding behind a house in stony point new york. look at this
